Located 50 to 55 kilometers (31 to 34 miles) south of San Pedro de Atacama, this reserve is your primary stop on the salt flat. Adult entry costs 8,000 to 12,000 CLP, and you must secure digital tickets online before arriving.
The area provides marked trails over the jagged white salt crust. Visitors come to see the Andean, Chilean, and James's flamingos feeding in the shallow, mineral-rich brine pools.

These marked walking paths guide you through the jagged salt crust to shallow brine pools. You must strictly stay on the trails to protect the fragile crust and nesting grounds. Because the birds are often distant, bring a camera with a zoom lens. Do not approach or make loud noises around the flamingos.

These open areas face the lagoon and offer clear sightlines across the water. At dusk, the sky reflects off the shallow pools. Temperatures drop rapidly once the sun sets. Bring a windbreaker or insulated jacket to stay warm.
